Mechanical Binding Central Bindery does more mechanical binding than anyone in Arizona. For example, we bind 500,000 Arizona Highways wall calendars every year. No one can match our turn times. We also can supply you with a list of binding element PMS colors, so ink colors on covers or pages can match the binding element.
Punch Equipment
We have two automatic and two manual punches with a combined capacity of 110,000 sheets/hour. Our new EX 380 Lhermite punch can handle tabs already collated into books, smaller sheets (3-1/2" x 4-1/4") and larger sheets (15" x 15") than standard automatic punches - with production of up to 50,000 sheets/hour.
Wire-O Equipment
Wire-O is the high end of the mechanical binding process. We offer one manual and two semi-automatic closing machines to insure fast production. Our new James Burn BB 550 closing machine efficiently handles extended covers or sheets, tabs and short sheets with more control in closing the wire for a perfect loop. It has skip binding capabilities either by itself or in combination with wire hangers for calendars. Bound edge dimensions are from 2" to 20". Spine to face dimensions are from 2" to 30". Wire-O diameters are from 1/4" to 1-1/4" in 18 different colors.
Plastic Spiral Equipment
We have three binding machines. Elements are available in many colors and are entirely made of plastic. Normally punched in a four-holes/inch oval pattern to allow the book to open and close easily, it is handwork intensive and takes longer to produce than Wire-O or Spiral Wire. Central Bindery's plastic spiral completes with the Plasticoil companies. Plastic Spiral diameters are 1/4" to 2".
Spiral Wire Equipment
Central Bindery has two semi-automatic machines. Wire colors are natural tinned metal, as well as nylon-coated wire in black or white. Diameters of wire coils are 1/4" to 1-1/8".
Plastic Comb Equipment
Commonly referred to as GBC, Central Bindery offers four combing machines. Diameters are from 1/4" to 2" and plastic combs are available in 12 colors. This process is handwork intensive and also takes longer than Wire-O or Spiral Wire.
